Formula 1 Locks In Free-to-Air Coverage in Austria Through 2029

Formula 1 has secured its free-to-air future in Austria after signing a multi-year extension with ServusTV that will keep the broadcaster’s coverage of the FIA Formula One World Championship on air through the end of the 2029 season.

The renewed agreement ensures Austrian fans will continue to have free access to every key moment of a Formula 1 race weekend, including practice sessions, qualifying, F1 Sprint events, and Grands Prix. ServusTV will retain rights across its linear television channel and streaming platform, ServusTV On.

The deal builds on a partnership that began six years ago and extends the current agreement beyond 2026, guaranteeing uninterrupted coverage from the 2027 season through 2029.

Formula 1 Chief Media Rights and Broadcasting Officer Ian Holmes noted in a statement that the renewal reflects the strength of the relationship between the two organizations and the importance of maintaining broad access to the sport.

“We are delighted to extend our partnership with ServusTV, who have delivered world-class broadcasting for our passionate fans in Austria over the last six years,” Holmes said. “Their dedication to delivering high-quality, free-to-air coverage ensures that fans across the country can continue to enjoy the drama and excitement of Formula 1. This extension reflects the strength of our collaboration and a shared ambition to grow the sport and bring F1 closer to our Austrian audience.”

ServusTV Global Head of Content Matthias Brügelmann said the extension is a win for Austrian motorsports fans.

“Over the past six years, ServusTV and Formula 1 have built a strong and successful partnership and extending this collaboration for a further three years is great news for motorsport fans in Austria,” Brügelmann said in a press release. “They can continue to watch their favourite sport free-to-air and in top quality on ServusTV and ServusTV On.”

The extension continues Formula 1’s strategy of balancing premium media rights deals with free-to-air access in key markets, helping maintain broad audience reach as the championship’s global popularity continues to grow. Austria remains one of the sport’s historic strongholds, home to the Red Bull Ring and a passionate fan base that has supported Formula 1 for decades.
